About
Born in Mexico City in 1988, Juan Carlos was raised with a photographer mom and a designer dad. He grew up assisting shoots and developing in a dark room adapted in his parents basement. After graduating art college he co-founded Kika Estudio, a production company and design studio focused on commercial work.
Based in Mexico City and nomad by spirit, he loves to work abroad. His biggest passion is light, doesn’t matter if he is playing the cinematographer or the photographer role.
- 2008 Won "The Shots young photographers competition" with the series Curb your happiness.
- 2008 Collective exhibition "Shots Young photographers" Berlin and London.
- 2010 Publishes his first book "Retrotábula" about the altarpiece of the cathedral in Zacatecas, made by artist Javier Marin.
- 2010 Collective exhibition "Mexican Curious" Mexico City.
- 2011 Short film he directed photography wins the prize "Studio 5 de mayo" at Morelia film Festival.
- 2012 The short film featured during "Semaine de la Critique du Festival de Cannes"
- 2015 With his wife Garloz, he starts a joint photo project with the surname "Gaggal".
- 2015 Collective exhibition "HotArt" by Hotbook Magazine with a piece of the project "Gaggal".
- 2016 Publishes his second book "Orfeo Quagliatta" about the glass artist of the same name.
- 2017 Publishes his third book "Verde Mexicano" a fresh look into the modern residential landscaping architecture in Mexico.
